One Week Immersion • 12 Months of Programming • Transformation for Life

You will join a highly-curated community of like-minded women on this year-long journey of redefining what it means to be a woman in science. To be you.

[No matter where you work now or how you spend your time, your connection to science, inquiry, wonder, curiosity, and the natural world shaped who you are today. This space is for you. Come reclaim wonderous you.]

I’m a Ph.D. scientist who helps women in science reclaim themselves—mind, body, and soul.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You feel stretched thin by all your responsibilities.

  • You feel you need to work harder than your male colleagues to prove yourself.

  • You’ve sacrificed personal needs for professional ones.

  • You’ve built a toughened exterior believing this will help you excel.

  • Your daily life as a scientist doesn’t bring you joy.

  • You doubt yourself and your abilities, worrying you’ll be exposed as a fraud or imposter.

  • Your life feels lackluster but you don’t know how to or can’t change it.

  • You yearn for something different, but you’re not sure what that is.

  • Despite all this, you put on a good face—appearing as if you have it all.

You are not alone.

We know the barriers for women in science are myriad—wage-gaps, sexual harassment, institutional bias. You’ve been taught that if you work hard, you’ll get just reward. And, you’ve worked hard. You’ve fought the battles, overcome the obstacles—or so you thought. But where are you? How is your heart?

I have news for you.

What if I told you it’s not about working harder or figuring out what you’re doing wrong? Or that you don’t have what it takes? What if I told you there are other ways?

Science is a monoculture.

You’ve been trained in an intellectual monoculture—one that, while powerful, is rigid, performative, and cerebral. That values drive, competition, hyper-individualism. And has required you to check large parts of who you are at the door.

Where is the little girl who marveled at butterflies or fiendishly studied repetitive patterns in the sand and waves—knowing about fractals before anyone taught you? The you who nurtures your children? Who dances wildly in your kitchen? Shares food with your neighbors? Who wears saucy outfits when she feels like it? Where is your fluidity, your compassion, your tears, your open heart, your intuition, your inclusivity, your grace, your creativity?

Guess what?

There are other ways of knowing.

The rhythm of the planet—of the Waters + Wilds—is here to teach us. To nurture us. To reconnect us with ourselves. While perhaps quieted, you know this connection deep in your bones.

The language of the Waters + Wilds is multilingual and multisensory: The Waters with their tsunamis and gentle trickles, slipstreams and riverways, show us we can at once be fierce and yielding; that fluidity is strength and flow brings surprise and joy. Immersing ourselves in water downregulates our nervous systems, reduces inflammation, increases circulation.

The Forests, with their complex mycelia sharing nutrients and carbon, and sending chemical signals warning of pathogens and pests, teach of communication, sharing, reciprocity. Walking in the forest improves our health by helping to regulate blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression, and stabilize our emotions. Their bounty of food, flowers, and herbs nourish and heal us.

Other ways of being and connecting.

The Oceans, with their robust webs of life—the marine algae who gather sunshine and carbon and provide sustenance for larger zooplankton and crustaceans, who feed larger fish, who feed the still larger sharks and whales—demonstrate the value of diversity, interdependence, giving. They sustain us—regulating our climate and providing oxygen and food and are critical to our wellbeing, for being in, on, or around the ocean induces a mildly meditative state, enhances feelings of calm and peacefulness, reduces stress, and increases creativity.

The Indigenous peoples know these truths in their bones. Their practices and stories, prayers and ways of walking the Earth teach us the importance of gratitude and reciprocity, community and balance, generosity and respect.

Your heart and your body are storehouses of information: they hold deep wisdom handed down from your ancestors; past traumas and unresolved experiences; bursts of magic, joy, and love. This library is brimming with deep knowing and sits ready to guide you, should you ask for guidance and be open to receiving it.

Every living being, every bit of dust and star, plays its unique roll and function—producing, storing, sharing, regulating, supporting, transforming, balancing, cycling—to contribute to the beauty, capacity, and resiliency of the Universe. Each models the rewards of shining your true nature for the benefit of all.

How would you feel if…

You were able, without doubt or reservation, to show up in your full brilliance, integrating and sharing all of you? How would your work change if the questions you asked were informed by a polyculture of complementary knowledges? What would your life look like if you cultivated richer, deeper connections with yourself, with Water + Wilds, with other women?

Water + Wilds is for You.

Wild + Wilds is designed for women like you—women in the natural sciences yearning for a better way.

Who seek to move beyond the walls of conventional science to explore different modes of knowing. Who want to honor the wisdom stored in their cells. Who long for deeper connections to themselves, the natural world, and like-minded women. Who are ready to shine.

The Program.

One Week Immersion • 12 Months of Programming • Transformation for Life

This program will challenge you to meet, explore, share, and integrate the deeper parts of you—many of which comprise your wildest strengths. It will ask you to find the courage, adaptability, and fortitude required by outdoor adventure. It will invite you to open yourself to ways of knowing. It will push you to be vulnerable and find the rewards of doing so.

Water + Wilds is a 12-month leadership program that begins with a one-week long deeply immersive, all-women experience into Water + Wilds, followed by a year of online programming and gathering with the powerful community of women we cultivate. Throughout the year, you will learn from a rich curriculum that draws on science, indigenous wisdom, women’s studies, and somatic and creative practices; and from direct experience with the natural world and other women.

We will adventure, gather, commune, write, create, share. Our time together will include movement practices, breathwork, journaling, art, and more to awaken each of your senses and feed your mind, body, and soul. You will experience all of this in a safe, nurturing container, one that will encourage you to emerge transformed.

The Immersion.

Hiking • Movement • Meditation • Journaling • Hotsprings • Starry Nights • Nourishing Food • Amazing Women • Transformational Programming

We will begin by gathering for a one-week, deeply immersive experience in a beautiful, nourishing setting in Grand Teton National Park near Moose, WY. You’ll join The Immersion in a cohort of no more than 18 women. The program itself will have several cohorts.

We’ll be based at a set of rustic cabins at the Murie Ranch of the Teton Science School, with a communal gathering space, expansive lawn, stunning vistas, and occasional neighborhood wildlife. Each woman will have her own bed in a shared cabin, and we’ll enjoy daily meals of high-quality, fresh cuisine. This compound will serve as our basecamp from which we’ll venture out for day hikes, hot springing, and visits to alpine lakes and rivers, and return to relax, dine, and enjoy campfires beneath starry, starry skies.

I’ll be sharing a rich curriculum that draws on science, indigenous wisdom, women’s studies, and somatic and creative practices. Through direct connection, you’ll be given the opportunity to sense what Water + Wilds may begin to reveal to and teach you, and how they may open you to other ways of knowing. Meditation, yoga, breathwork, journaling, ritual, sound healing, discussion topics, and more will invite you to explore parts of yourself you may have long ago left behind.

You will be gifted time and space for self-reflection, reconnection, and healing, while benefitting from the opportunity to grow and learn in community with supportive sisters who understand what it means to be a woman in science.

The Circle.

Community • Wellness Experts • Curated Readings • Journaling • Water Circles • Q + A • Private 1:1 Coaching

The journey home from The Immersion is sure to be bittersweet: You’ve experienced so much. You feel different. You have new tools. New outlooks. New wisdom. You have lots of ideas about your future. You are excited. You’ve found your women—and you miss them. You miss the Water + Wilds. Now what?

I’ve got you. For the following year, you’ll join The Circle, where you’ll convene regularly with me and with sisters from your cohort. As we run additional cohorts, The Circle will grow, allowing you to expand your community of sisters in science. Together, we’ll continue connecting, giving and receiving support, finding accountability, learning and growing. Our platform, tools, and additional teachings will help you integrate your experiences internally and into your life, continue walking your expansive path, and become ever more aligned with who you truly are.

You’ll Get:

  • A private virtual community with women from your cohort and the larger community. Here you will find a safe space to connect with your sisters, discuss monthly topics, share stories, and access additional resources (ongoing).

  • Live virtual expert workshops with me or vetted science, naturalist, and wellness experts (1 per month).

  • Monthly Water Wisdom Journals, each exploring a different topic to deepen your journey; discussion questions will be posted inside virtual communities for you to discuss (1 per month).

Are You Ready?

Water + Wilds is a big commitment and will ask much of you. It will require your time, focus, and financial investment. Have questions or concerns?

Let’s jump on a call so I can address your questions and concerns and we can determine if the program is a good fit for you.

I am you.

I’ve traveled the journey of science, earned the degrees, done the things. I know the halls you’ve traveled and the late nights you’ve endured. I’ve been alternatively awed and humbled, thrilled and miserable.

Yet, for as much as I loved the analytical challenges, relished every minute in every field location, expedition, and outpost, other parts of me eventually called me off the conventional path. After completing my post-doctorate, something deep in my soul balked at committing to the path of academia or honestly, anything resembling a “job”. At 35 years old, I walked away from the big posts that were clearly on my path. I knew myself well enough to listen to those parts of me that were yearning for expression—my writer, artist, outdoor explorer, yogini—and moved to a ski town instead.

This has taken me on an unknown and offbeat path, one that has brought me magic and mystery; highs and lows: Guiding students to the Wilds of Patagonia, the Himalaya, and Alaska. Running rivers and finding peace, connection, and magical encounters with rock and water and animals and humans—and, ripping my knee open to the patella in a boating accident. Having money. Not having money. Finding the kind of love I’d only dreamed about, only to have my heart ripped out. Dancing with joyful abandon at Burning Man. Navigating uncomfortable edges.

It’s time to reconnect.

In all of this, I’ve come to understand how profoundly grounding, healing, expansive, nurturing, awe-inspiring, and straight-up magical, time in and around Water + Wilds is. It is the antidote to the mess and stress and disconnect of so much of modern existence.

I see so many women suffering from misalignment and disconnect. This is particularly so for women in the natural sciences—women like you—once entirely enthralled by the beating wings of butterflies now functioning beneath the weight of a limited system. I know that Water + Wilds have the capacity to teach and heal you. To help you reestablish connection to yourself, the planet, other women. To find love. And, then, to begin honoring yourself in powerful ways.

Time to trust.

For many of you, the idea of gathering with women in an intimate setting, of making yourself vulnerable, may feel unfamiliar and a bit scary. Trust me when I tell you that this is your conditioning. Time and again, I’ve watched these veneers melt away as women begin to feel safe, share of themselves, and very quickly come to understand we share the similar burdens of societal norms and expectations, and—we need each other. They discover that women in community are powerful beyond measure. You will too!

Kind Words.

How wonderful that we had the wise and lovely Wendy as our muse and guide. Of course, water was the subject and the vehicle for the “free flow” of thought—and how delicious to think intentionally about a resource that yes, frankly, on most days I have taken for granted. So all around, like droplets in a desert nourishing a thirsty traveler, so do I feel the quenching power of Water Love giving me inspiration and strength to navigate a world that continues to challenge and bewilder.
